Questions & Answers
Q. Question? The vehicle financing company in the UK, I was wondering where they get the cars they sell from?

A. Best Answer: They purchase fleet cars from major companies as well as hire car fleets as they are only kept for a year or two with avis etc....
Plus any other bulk and cheap sorce.
however we buy any car is rarely used as too low volume and erratic. just look at how many of the same make and model they stock

Q. Question? I got a car on finance and all was great till I was involved in a accident in 2009. The car was a total loss. I had Fully comp. cover. The insurance said they will pay the outstanding ballance on my finance and the finance company were in contact with the insurance company. After about 2 months the finance called me and said I still owe £3000. I contacted the insurance and they said they never told me they will settle the ballance. After accepting there is no way i can prove what they said, i asked for the car back to sell off and try to cover the £3000 finance left on it. To my shock they said they crushed the vehicle and the matter is dealt with from their point.

So what I want to know; Are they responcible for the £3000 still outstanding? The finance company seemed to think so, but now changed their mind and is chasing me for the money. The strange thing is I never recieved any documentation from the insurance co. and they were recorded by the finance co. where they said they will pay all of the ballance not just two thirds, but never did and the finance co. somehow lost the recording. What a mess =( What do I do?

A. Best Answer: Get the citizens advice bureau to help you with this.

Q. Question?

A. Best Answer: Financed cars is more expensive to insurance cause it requires full coverage. You can compare how much you would pay for full coverage of this car using this tool - carquotes.fateback.com

Q. Question? hi i have 14 months left on the agreement. the price was £10,000 when bought with £5660.40 in interest. the apr was 14.9% over 60 months.
we have paid to date £12006.00 and we owe, including interest £3654.40
so my question is what will my settlement figure be roughly if i was to settle now. i have requested a settlement figure from the finance company but they are being a bit weird about it and i still haven't received it (i asked over 2 weeks ago) and they wont tell me over the telephone for some reason.
can anyone help me or tell me how to work it out please as i am hoping to change my car this week.
thank you in advance
xxxx
yeah thanks cindy but i dont want a job in pakistan as your link suggests.

A. Best Answer: Roughly around £3,400. Rebate used to be calculated on 'Rule of 78' formula, but government changed formula in 2008, but Rule of 78 still gives you a rough idea (have attached link to page where you can type in figures).

That aside, your lender HAS TO give you your settlement figure. Ring them again, and provided you can prove you are you (ie date of birth etc) they can give it over the phone with written confirmation being posted out. If the operative refuses, state that you are entitled to this and you shall be making a complaint to Financial Ombudsman Service for undue delay.

(I work for finance company and deal with this day in day out)

Q. Question? My son has to send his bank statement to a finance company. He wants to make his state of affairs look a bit healthier. His statement has been saved to an excel spreadsheet, if he edits this will the recipient know about it.
Me and his Dad are actually financing the car he is buying , but for him to get insurance it needs to be his name on the finance.
He will be paying it, we will just be taking a smaller amount monthly over a longer period of time.

I just don't know how spreadsheets work at all

A. Best Answer: Metadata in the Excel file will show who originally created it, but not who last saved it.

The time and date that the file was last saved will indicate that the file was edited recently, which may tip them off that your son edited. Or it may not, depending on how much attention the company pays to the file properties.

Well there's that, and you're committing fraud, that's never really a good sign.

Q. Question? Source, http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/uk-petrol-tax-jumps-at-twice-euro-average-skynews-e3fdd28c8dcf.html

British drivers have been hit by petrol tax rises running at twice the average rate across Europe, new data shows.
The AA said VAT on a tank of petrol in the UK has gone up 11.46% since the pre-Budget report at the end of November 2008.
That is over five times the increase seen in Austria and more than double the 5.07% average rise in 10 mainstream European countries, including France, Germany and Holland.
For UK diesel car owners, the fuel tax burden has increased 8.10% - marginally lower than the 8.33% in Ireland but almost three times the European average.
My question is what are we going to do about it? what happened to the fuel protests of a few years ago?
We have an election coming up, don't you think we should pressurise the politicians who will be desperate for our votes?

A. Best Answer: It seems to be that in England once prises rise, they never come down again. If people dont protest then they just keep rising the prises.

When people do protest and things are lowered, they make up for it by rising the prices of something else. I do think that this point should be made at the next election.

Its unfair that we should pay more for our fuel that other developed countries in europe.

Q. Question? I had responded to a car ad in the UK online AutoTrader and been in contact with "Tom Slyns" about a vehicle. I now know this to be a scam and want to know who best I can report this to to get this guy caught. I have all the correspondence and the bank details of Terje Nicolas, the "Yahoo-finance rep" he is using.I would love to get this guy! Also, what kind of fun can I have to wind this guy up? He thinks I am making the payment a.s.a.p. but I am trying to work out what to do.

A. Best Answer: You probably cant find him because he is probably not in the UK and his name is not Tony Slyns or Terje Nicolas. Those are probably the names of their previous victims, as the scammers often use prior victim's names as their aliases. The real people with these names probably dont even know their identity is now being used to scam others.
If you want some scambaiting tips, read the forums on http://419eater.com/
But you should only ever do this if - you are using a proxy server so they can't find you, your email address has nothing to identify your real name, you have never given your phone number or address, etc. These scammers are not lone individuals, they are part of global criminal gangs, so you dont want any way for them to find out who you really are or where you really live

You can try to get a mailing address by saying that you would want to overnight mail a money order to them, and if they give a street address, then call the local police for that town. Or does he say exactly what town he is in? Say that you are coming this weekend (or if they are overseas say you have a cousin in that country who will come) to pick up the car and youll pay him cash.

Do an IP lookup of the emails to find out where they are contacting you from. These scammers are usually in W Africa or E Europe

Q. Question? I test drove SAAB Tdi on 27/03/2010 and I quite liked it, the sales advisor priced it for £7333, I paid £2000 as a deposit with my Visa Debit Card, the deal was under their own scrapage allowance they were going to take my car in P/X without seeing it pay £2000 for it and arrange finance for £3333.

Now I am in a process of buying a flat in London so I requested to not do the finance bit till my house procedure is completed, unfortunately the bank has asked me to pay more monies & I have to back off this deal.

I did sign some paperwork, I/We ereby agree to purchase from you SUBJECT TO THE CONDITIONS HEREOF

Consumer transaction Nothing herein contained is intended to, nor will it affect, a consumers statutory rights under the state of Goods Act 1979 or the unfair contract terms Act 1977 or any amendment thereof.

This document contains the terms of a contract. Sign it only if you wish to be legally bound by them

I SIGNED IT :( where do I stand do I have a chance of getting it back somehow.

I have written an email just 24 hours after that I want to back of this deal as my financial condition has changed.

I spoke to the Manager, he is saying I have signed the finance paper & he agrees that I said to seek for finance once my mortgage procedure was completed. But the Deposit is NON- REFUNDABLE that's company policy and you are very welcome to seek legal advice he gave me his name.

I explained to him that my mortgage bank has asked for more monies & my Financial situation has changed I cant afford Finance anymore & I kindly request my money back.

I will be seeing him Face to Face on Friday 05/03/2010, what should I do, attached receipts which I signed, they didn't show me any terms & conditions, it doesn't say on receipt that it is non-refundable, and the car price is unfair.

your fair response will be appreciated

Kind Regards
S

A. Best Answer: He is a Sales Man. Get over it. He will want to make the sale. If he will not give your money back, the car is yours, that's what I think. Request title.
The reality here is true, you might have bought the car already, so get the keys, and drive it home. You will probably have to wait to move, or resale the car, then move. Tough lesson, I know.
But I think you deserve the car, NOW, especially since you put a down payment on it. Down payment, or deposit means the car is on hold for you, no one else, and they can not sell it from under you. The deposit goes towards the car, and that is probably the way it's going to be.
I know, where's good cop when you need one. I personally think the sales man could wait until you get your finances in order, then he good make a good sale.

Q. Question? In September I bought a new Fiat Punto Grande.
For the past two months or so i have on occasion had problems starting the engine.
Mostly after it has been for a run and ive come back to the car an hour later.
One day when i was reversing off my drive the engine cut out and i was stuck in the middle of the road unable to restart the engine.
The engine will start around 4-5 mins later but it does this at the most inconvenient times and is happening more regularly.
The first time i took the car back to the dealer they said that they could not find anything wrong with it and gave it me back. They told me to phone the AA if it happened again so they could hook a computer up to my car and diagnose it, so when this happened i phoned them and an hour later when they arrived, of course my car started.
They gave me some advice to carry out in which should start my engine if it happened again but this did not work.
Therefore when it happened again later i took the car back to the dealer and it has been there now for 3 days. They are yet to find anything wrong with the car.
Does anyone have any advice as to what the fault maybe?
Also what are my rights with this car, is it true if the fault is not detected by the third visit to the dealer i am aloud a replacement car or a refund?
I have purchased this car on finance.
If anyone has any advice it would be really helpful, thankyou.

A. Best Answer: take it to fiat, they have a recall about that!!
